I was born
with a birth defect on my right arm
and scoliosis (curvature of the
spine). After several years of wearing
a brace to try and correct the
curvature failed this led to a spinal
fusion operation of the lower third of
my spine at age 7. Aside from growth
being stunted 4-6 inches between my
waist and chest I was able to live a
normal life.
Always being
very active playing tennis and golf I
saw a steady increase in my ibuprofen
intake in my thirties for lower back
pain and upper back spasms. In 1999, I
read an article about NBA star Alonzo
Mourning having to miss the entire
season and possible forced retirement
due to a kidney problem originally
diagnosed as a result of simply taking
the same over the counter pain
medications that I was taking.
I was shocked to say the least
and immediately began searching for
alternative medical solutions.
Having never
tried magnets (too hokie for me) I was
desperate. During the same time in
1999, I
was taking golf lessons and
hitting a lot of practice balls. This
made my wrist sore. So I purchased a
magnetic therapy wrist bracelet with
the idea that if it helped, maybe I
could design something for my back.
To my amazement the bracelet
helped. My first MagicBelt was made
out of copper and magnets wrapped in
cheesecloth and worn on the inside of
my clothing. Although it definitely
eased my back pain it was cumbersome
and would get sweaty easily. After
extensive research, I found
turbo-strength rare earth magnets that
not only penetrate through leather,
clothes and skin but 4-6 inches beyond
that into the blood stream. If a
picture’s worth a thousand words our
thermal images really tell the story.
We've never
had enough money to advertise so going
to all kinds consumer trade shows put
the first 10,000 MagicBelts in the
marketplace literally one at a time.
Getting up at 4 a.m. and taking my 3
year old daughter with me to get in a
lottery for a swap meet space just to
sell 7 MagicBelts that day. I guess
that’s belief! Our first MagicBelts
were very stiff
and plain looking but as long
as people tried them on they felt the
difference and bought one. Expanding
our line, making the MagicBelt more
fashionable, and word of mouth helped
us sell the next 20,000 MagicBelts.
Amazing
stories of healing and positive
feedback from happy customers has kept
our dream of revolutionizing the belt
business alive. None more amazing then
my now partners story NFL Hall of Fame running back ERIC DICKERSON. Like
most people who take good care of
themselves ERIC is fashion conscious too. He found out about
the MagicBelt from a golf buddy who
knew he had back problems. When we all
met I was just hoping for another good
testimonial for the website. I’ll
never forget his words “I want to do more.” Eric
invited me to some celebrity and
charity golf tournaments to help us
sell MagicBelts and we continued to
discuss our partnership. He wanted to
put
his brand on it just like
George Foreman did with The Grill. I
still couldn’t figure out why someone
like him wanted to help us. The more I
got to know him, I realized that his
interests were genuine.
I still had to be sure so one
day I called him on his cell phone and
asked him. “Are you sure you want to do
this?,” I said. “You
know people are going to associate you

for the rest of your life.” ERIC

It doesn’t matter because I believe
in the product just like you do Don,
I’ve got drawstring pants on today
with no belt loops but I still have
the belt on. I wear it everyday and
will wear it every day
for
the rest of my life. It’s your
product, you’re the inventor. I
don’t ever want to change that but
if putting my name on it can help more
people buy more MagicBelts, just do
it.” Well, that was good
enough for me.
